Vanagon Hall Effect Distributor – 025-905-237

The 025-905-237 is engineered specifically for the 2.1L "Wasserboxer" engines found in late-model Vanagons. Unlike earlier air-cooled distributors, this unit does not have internal centrifugal or vacuum advance weights; instead, the ignition timing is managed digitally by the van's ECU (Electronic Control Unit).

If your Vanagon is suffering from a sudden loss of spark or a tachometer needle that "bounces" erratically, the internal Hall Effect Sender is often the culprit. Since the sender is difficult to replace individually, installing this complete new distributor is the most cost-effective and reliable way to ensure your ignition system is performing at factory specifications.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Static Timing: Before removing your old distributor, set the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC) on cylinder #1 and note the position of the rotor. Align the new distributor to the same position to make initial startup easier.

  • Timing Check: After installation, use a timing light to verify the timing according to factory specs (typically 7° BTDC with the idle stabilizer bypassed).

  • Verify the Connector: Ensure your 3-pin wiring harness connector is clean and free of corrosion, as a poor connection here will cause the engine to cut out.
