Engine Case Captive Nut (M10) – 111-101-135
The 111-101-135 is a critical piece of hardware for any VW engine installation. Unlike the other three mounting points that use standard bolts or studs with removable nuts, the upper-left position (behind the oil cooler area) requires this captive nut because there is insufficient clearance to reach behind the flange with a tool once the engine is in the car.
This nut features a splined or "ribbed" outer surface designed to bite into the magnesium or aluminum engine case, preventing it from spinning when the mounting bolt is tightened from the transmission side. If you are starting a new engine build with a fresh case, or if your current nut is missing or damaged, this is a mandatory part for a safe and secure installation.

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Installation Method: The nut should be pressed or carefully tapped into the case from the engine side of the flange. Ensure the splines are aligned straight to avoid damaging the case material.
-
Spinning Nut Fix: If the nut begins to spin during installation, you may need to use a small amount of high-strength sleeve retainer.
-
Bolt Inspection: Always check the threads of your mounting bolt before threading it into the new captive nut; a cross-threaded bolt can ruin the nut and require a difficult extraction.
