VW German Swing Axle Split Boot Kit – 111-598-021AGR

The 111-598-021AGR is a premium German-manufactured split axle boot kit designed for air-cooled Volkswagens equipped with a swing axle rear suspension. The "split" design is a favorite among enthusiasts because it allows for the replacement of a cracked or leaking boot without removing the entire axle or transmission from the vehicle. This kit is made from high-grade, oil-resistant rubber that provides superior flexibility and longevity compared to standard budget versions.

A torn axle boot is a serious issue, as it allows vital gear oil to leak out while letting road grime and water into the axle tubes and transmission. This German-made kit ensures a precision fit along the "seam," which is critical for preventing leaks. The kit comes complete with a high-quality hardware set, including the necessary clamps and the small nuts and bolts required to seal the split seam securely.

Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This kit fits all air-cooled models with a standard Swing Axle rear end, including commercial vehicles:

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Positioning the Seam: Always install the boot with the split seam facing the rear at about 1 to 2 O'clock position of the car. This prevents road debris and water from being forced directly into the seam while driving forward.

  • Don't Over-Tighten: Tighten the small nuts and bolts just enough to compress the rubber for a seal. Over-tightening can "pucker" the rubber and actually create a gap for oil to leak through.

  • Clean the Flange: Before installing the new boot, use a degreaser to thoroughly clean the axle tube and the transmission side-cover flange. Any oil residue on the mounting surfaces can cause the boot to slip or leak.

  • Check Gear Oil Levels: After a boot has been leaking, always top off your transmission with fresh 80W-90 gear oil to replace what was lost.
