VW Main Bearing Set – 111-198-483OSM

Restore the bottom end of your engine with this precision Main Bearing Set. When a vintage Volkswagen engine case is line-bored and the crankshaft is turned, standard bearings will no longer fit. This 111-198-483OSM set is specifically engineered for "triple-cut" machining requirements, ensuring a perfect oil clearance and structural fit for high-mileage or performance-machined engine blocks.

These bearings are manufactured from high-quality bimetal or steel-backed alloys to provide superior load-carrying capacity and heat dissipation. Proper bearing fitment is the single most important factor in maintaining oil pressure and ensuring the longevity of your crankshaft and engine case.

Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This bearing set fits 1300cc, 1500cc, and 1600cc engine cases machined to these specs:

VW Beetle (Standard):

  • 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977

VW Super Beetle:

  • 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979

VW Bus (Type 2):

  • 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971

VW Karmann Ghia:

  • 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974

Product Highlights & Features Precision Machining Specs: Designed for a .25mm under-sized crankshaft journal, a 1.0mm over-sized engine case bore, and a 1.0mm over-sized thrust cut.

Steel-Backed Construction: Provides the rigidity necessary to prevent bearing "spun" issues in high-heat air-cooled environments.

Oil Passage Alignment: Features factory-accurate oil holes and tangs to ensure uninterrupted lubrication to the crankshaft journals.

Complete Set: Includes all main bearings required for a full Type 1 style engine assembly.

Technical Specifications Part Number: 111-198-483OSM

Crankshaft Journal: .25mm (First Under)

Case Bore: 1.0mm (Second Over)

Thrust Surface: 1.0mm (Oversize)

Application: Type 1, 2, and 3 Engines

Installation & Maintenance Tips Confirm Your Cut: Always use a micrometer to verify your crankshaft and case dimensions before ordering. Installing the wrong bearing size will result in immediate engine seizure or total loss of oil pressure.

The "Tang" Alignment: Ensure the locating tangs on the bearings are perfectly seated in the case recesses. If a bearing is installed slightly askew, it will crush when the case halves are torqued.

Assembly Lube: Use a high-quality engine assembly grease on the bearing surfaces during installation. Do not use standard engine oil, as it may drain off before the engine is first started.

Clean the Oil Galley: Before seating the bearings, blow out the engine case oil galleys with compressed air to ensure no machining metal shavings remain.
