VW Heater Tube Foam Seal – 111-255-419B
The 111-255-419B is a high-density foam gasket designed to seal the air gap where the heater tube passes through the body to the heater channel. In the Volkswagen air-cooled heating system, maintaining a tight seal at every junction is critical. This foam ring prevents precious warm air from escaping into the fender wells or the exterior environment, ensuring that the maximum amount of heat reaches the interior of the cabin.
Over time, the original foam seals become dry-rotted, compressed, or brittle, eventually disintegrating entirely. This leads to weak airflow at the defrost vents and footwells, and can even allow road noise and moisture to seep into the heater channels. Replacing these seals with the 111-255-419B is a simple but effective way to restore the efficiency of your vintage heating system and protect the interior of your heater channels from corrosion-causing moisture.
Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This foam seal is designed for the later style heater tube configurations:
VW Beetle (Standard):
-
1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977
VW Super Beetle:
-
1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979
Product Highlights & Features High-Density Foam Construction: Engineered to provide a compressed, airtight seal that withstands the constant vibration of air-cooled engine operation.
Heat Resistant: Specifically formulated to endure the high temperatures produced by the engine's heat exchangers without melting or losing its shape.
Moisture Barrier: Acts as a gasket to keep road spray and humidity out of the critical junction between the body and the heater channel.
Exact OE Dimensions: Die-cut to the original factory specifications for a perfect slide-on fit over the heater tube.
Technical Specifications Part Number: 111-255-419B
Material: Specialized Heat-Resistant Foam
Quantity: Sold Individually (Two required per vehicle)
Application: Late-model 111-series chassis
Installation & Maintenance Tips Clean the Surface: Before installing the new foam ring, ensure the metal surfaces of the heater tube and the body opening are clean and free of rust or old foam remnants.
Check the Tube Condition: While you have access to this area, inspect the flexible heater hoses and the metal heater tubes for holes or heavy rust. Even the best seal won't help if the tube itself is compromised.
Slide-on Fit: This seal is designed to be a snug fit. If it feels too tight, you can lightly dust the inner diameter with a small amount of talcum powder to help it slide into position without tearing.
Replace in Pairs: Because these seals age at the same rate, it is highly recommended to replace both the left and right side seals at the same time to ensure balanced heat distribution.
