VW Main Heater Control Cable (German Quality) – 111-711-717AGR
The 111-711-717AGR is a premium, German-manufactured main heater control cable designed for middle-era air-cooled Volkswagens. Measuring exactly 1425mm, this cable is the primary mechanical link between your interior heater levers and the rear heat exchangers. It provides the necessary pull to actuate the flaps that allow warm air to travel from the engine area into the cabin.
This "GR" (German) designated cable is the preferred choice for serious restorations. Unlike generic cables that can be prone to stretching or snapping under tension, this version is made from high-tensile, zinc-plated steel. This ensures a smooth, bind-free stroke and superior resistance to the moisture and road debris that often enters the heater cable guide tubes.
Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This 1425mm cable is the factory-correct length for the following models:
VW Beetle (Standard):
-
1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972
VW Super Beetle:
-
1971, 1972
VW Karmann Ghia:
-
1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972
Product Highlights & Features
-
German Manufacturing: Built to original Volkswagen blueprints to ensure the exact 1425mm length required for a perfect "full-open/full-closed" flap cycle.
-
Zinc-Plated Steel: The wire is specially coated to prevent corrosion, which is the leading cause of "frozen" heater levers.
-
Correct End Fittings: Features the factory-spec looped end for secure attachment to the heater box lever arm.
-
Consistent Diameter: Maintains a precise thickness to prevent binding or friction against the inner walls of the chassis guide tubes.

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
The "Buddy" System: Installing heater cables is much easier with two people. Have one person pull the lever inside the car while the other verifies the flap movement at the heat exchanger.
-
Tube Preparation: Always blow out the guide tubes with compressed air and use a light lithium grease or graphite lube on the cable before sliding it into the chassis.
-
Avoid Kinking: Be extremely careful not to kink the wire during installation, as a single sharp bend will cause the cable to bind and eventually snap.
-
Adjust for Seasonal Use: Even if you don't use your heater in the summer, move the levers occasionally to keep the cables from seizing in the tubes due to inactivity.
