VW Fuel Tank to Body Gasket – 111-201-621C

The 111-201-621C is a critical sealing component designed to sit between the fuel tank flange and the vehicle body. This gasket provides a cushioned, airtight, and watertight barrier that prevents metal-on-metal friction, which can lead to rust and structural fatigue over time. It also serves as a vital secondary defense against fuel vapors and road moisture entering the trunk area or passenger compartment.

This specific gasket is manufactured from high-quality, fuel-resistant rubber or closed-cell foam (depending on the specific production run) to ensure it does not degrade when exposed to gasoline spills. Because the fuel tank in a classic Volkswagen is located directly above the front luggage area, a compromised or flattened gasket can lead to persistent fuel smells and potential water damage to your trunk liner and wiring.

Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This gasket is designed for the standard fuel tank footprint found in these models:

VW Beetle (Standard):

  • 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977

VW Karmann Ghia:

  • 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974

Product Highlights & Features Anti-Vibration Barrier: Dampens the natural vibrations of the fuel tank against the body, preventing squeaks and protecting the paint finish on the tank flange.

Durable Composition: Made from specialized materials that remain flexible for years, resisting the "pancaking" effect that causes older gaskets to lose their seal.

Exact OE Perimeter: Precision-cut to match the bolt-hole pattern and perimeter of the factory 111-series fuel tanks for a drop-in installation.

Moisture Protection: Blocks rainwater and road spray from seeping into the fuel tank well and the front trunk area.

Technical Specifications Part Number: 111-201-621C

Installation & Maintenance Tips Clean the Flange: Before laying down the new gasket, ensure the body lip and the fuel tank flange are completely free of old adhesive, rust, and dirt. A smooth surface is essential for an even seal.

Align Bolt Holes First: Lay the gasket on the body and loosely start the fuel tank mounting bolts through the gasket holes. This ensures the gasket doesn't shift or bunch up as you lower the tank into position.

Check the Overflow Tube: While the tank is out to replace this gasket, inspect your fuel overflow/breather hoses. If they are cracked, you will still smell fuel even with a brand-new gasket.

Torque Evenly: Tighten the fuel tank mounting clips in a criss-cross pattern to ensure the tank compresses the gasket evenly around the entire circumference.
