Spark Plug Wire Set (USA Made) – 021-998-031AUS

The 021-998-031AUS wire set is an essential upgrade for any Type 4 engine owner. These engines run notoriously hot, which can cause inferior spark plug wires to become brittle and crack, leading to voltage leaks and misfires. The Walker 924-1172 set features thick, heat-resistant silicone jackets that remain flexible even after years of heat cycles.

This set includes all four spark plug leads and the central coil wire. The connectors are designed to "click" firmly onto the spark plugs and distributor cap towers, preventing moisture from entering and ensuring the connection doesn't vibrate loose on long road trips.

Detailed Vehicle Compatibility

VW Bus (Type 2 / Transporter / Bay Window):

  • 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979

VW Vanagon (Air-Cooled Models):

  • 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983

Porsche 914 (All 4-Cylinder Models):

  • 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976

Product Highlights & Features

  • Walker Quality: Utilizing Walker 924-1172 components for long-term reliability in high-heat engine compartments.

  • Corrosion Resistant Terminals: Features stainless steel or brass terminals that resist oxidation, maintaining a low-resistance path for the spark.

  • OEM Fit and Finish: Leads are cut to the exact lengths required for the Type 4 engine, eliminating messy "extra" wire that can rest on hot engine components.

Technical Specifications

  • Part Number: 021-998-031AUS

  • Cross Reference: Walker 924-1172

  • Material: Silicone Jacket / Suppression Core

  • Engine Fitment: 1.7L, 1.8L, and 2.0L Type 4

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • One at a Time: To avoid mixing up your firing order, replace the wires one by one. Remove one old wire and immediately replace it with the matching length from the new set.

  • Dielectric Grease: Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of the rubber boots. This prevents the boots from "baking" onto the spark plugs or distributor cap, making future removal much easier.

  • Routing: Ensure the wires are routed through the factory plastic clips and kept away from the exhaust heat exchangers to prevent the insulation from melting.
