Rear Axle Seal Kit – 111-598-051AGR

The 111-598-051AGR is a mandatory kit for any rear brake job or suspension refresh on a swing-axle Volkswagen. If you notice oil dampness inside your rear wheels or a "grabbing" sensation when braking, your axle seals have likely failed. This kit features high-quality rubber and paper components designed to withstand the heat and chemical properties of modern gear oils.

Please note that this kit covers one side of the vehicle. For a complete rear-end service, two kits should be purchased.

Product Highlights & Features

  • All-in-One Kit: Eliminates the need to source individual O-rings and gaskets separately.

  • High-Grade Oil Seal: Features a double-lip design (where applicable) to provide a superior barrier against 85W-90 gear oil.

  • Precision Paper Gaskets: Die-cut for a perfect fit against the bearing carrier housing.

Technical Specifications

  • Part Number: 111-598-051AGR

  • Application: Rear Outer Axle

  • Compatibility: Swing Axle Only

  • Contents: Oil Seal, O-Rings, Gaskets, Cotter Pin

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Clean the Surfaces: Use brake cleaner to thoroughly remove all old oil and gasket residue from the bearing housing before installation. Any debris left behind will cause the new paper gaskets to weep.

  • Lubricate the Seal: Apply a small amount of clean gear oil to the inner lip of the main rubber seal before sliding it over the axle. This prevents "dry start" friction that can damage the seal immediately.

  • Torque the Axle Nut: After installation, the large 36mm axle nut must be torqued to factory specifications (typically 217+ ft-lbs) to properly crush the components together and ensure a tight seal. Always use a new cotter pin (Included).
