2" Narrowed Tie Rod Kit – EMPI 22-2832-0
The EMPI 22-2832-0 is an essential steering component for any classic Volkswagen running a 2" narrowed front beam. When a front axle beam is narrowed to improve wheel-to-fender clearance, the factory-length tie rods become too long and will prevent proper steering alignment. This pre-shortened kit provides a clean, bolt-on solution that eliminates the dangerous practice of cutting and re-threading old, fatigued steering rods.
Each 22-2832-0 kit comes as a complete set of two tie rods (left and right sides). The rods are manufactured from high-strength steel and include all four brand-new tie rod ends, as well as the necessary locking nuts and hardware. For owners of 1954-1965 Link Pin vehicles, this kit ensures your steering geometry remains accurate, reducing tire wear and providing a stable, predictable steering feel even at a lowered ride height.

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Steering Damper Note: For 1954-1959 models that did not originally come with a steering damper, the mounting hole on the inner right tie rod end will simply remain unused.
-
Thread Lubrication: Apply a small amount of anti-seize to the threads of the tie rod ends before installing them into the sleeves. This will make future toe-adjustments significantly easier and prevent the parts from "freezing" together.
-
Professional Alignment: Installing new tie rods will completely change your front-end alignment. You must perform a professional toe-in alignment immediately after installation to ensure safe handling and prevent rapid tire scrubbing.
-
Check Clearance: After installation, turn the steering wheel to "full lock" in both directions to verify the new rods do not interfere with the frame, fuel lines, or tires.
