EMPI Lowered Performance Gas Shocks (Link Pin Front)

Upgrade your classic VW or Karmann Ghia's suspension with EMPI's gas-charged lowered shocks. Engineered specifically for vehicles with link pin front ends that have been lowered more than 3 inches using an adjustable beam.

Performance & Stability

Unlike standard oil-filled units, the gas-charged design offers superior responsiveness to road changes, providing better tire-to-ground contact for more stable handling. The specialized travel range 11⅛" (closed) / 14⅝" (open) is crucial for eliminating bottoming out on significantly lowered vehicles. While these shocks offer a firmer, stiffer ride ideal for aggressive driving or racing, they deliver unmatched control.

Fitment and Compatibility

• Application: Required for 1954–1965 Beetle and 1956–1965 Karmann Ghia models with link pin front ends lowered over 3 inches.

  • (Note: Stock-height or drop-spindle lowered cars can use stock shocks.)

  • (Note: Stock length rear shocks generally work for most lowered rear applications.)

• Specifications: 11⅛" (closed) / 14⅝" (open)

• Mounting: Sold individually. Upper and lower eyelets have a 12mm inner diameter sleeve.

Installation Note

The required size for the trailing arm mount is approximately 11.9mm. If the new shock does not fit the lower mount, it indicates that the sleeve from the old shock has rusted in place and must be removed using appropriate tools like vice grips, heat, or cutting implements.
