Radius Rod Bushing (Rear/Inner) – 251-407-175

The 251-407-175 is a staple component for refreshing a high-mileage Vanagon front suspension. These bushings are under constant tension, and over time, the rubber can compress or oil-soak, leading to a "clunk" when the vehicle shifts weight. Because the radius rod is a primary structural link, ensuring these inner bushings are pliable and intact is essential for maintaining a safe, predictable ride.

This part is a direct factory replacement and is compatible with the standard steel spacer sleeves and washers used in the 1980–1991 suspension assembly. It is an "each" listing, so be sure to order the correct quantity for a full axle refresh.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • The "Sandwich" Assembly: This bushing sits on the side of the chassis bracket closest to the rear of the van. Ensure the Radius Rod Washer is oriented correctly to provide a flat mating surface for the rubber.

  • Check the Sleeve: The Radius Rod Spacer Sleeve (251-407-097) passes through the center of this bushing. If the sleeve is rusted or pitted, it will act like sandpaper on the new rubber; always replace damaged sleeves.

  • Torque Sequence: Final tightening of the radius rod nut should be performed with the vehicle's full weight on its wheels (at ride height) to prevent pre-loading the rubber and causing premature failure.
