Installation & Maintenance Tips Installation Timing: This boot is much easier to install when the transmission is being mated to the chassis. If the engine and trans are already in the car, you will need to disconnect the shift coupler to slide the boot onto the rod.

Use Lubricant: Applying a small amount of silicone spray or rubber lubricant to the inner lip of the boot will help it slide over the shift rod and seat onto the nosecone without binding.

Check the Nose Cone Mount: While you are under the car replacing this boot, it is the perfect time to inspect your Nose Cone Mount. If the mount is old and cracked it could be separated from its metal backing and no longer holding your transmission mounted to the chassis which can cause the transmission to "pop" out of gear.

Secure Fit: Ensure the "ribs" of the boot are properly seated. A loose boot can slide down the rod and fail to provide the necessary protection for the nosecone seal.
