Front Shift Rod Bushing (Vanagon)
If your Vanagon’s shifter feels vague or loose, the culprit is often a worn-out front shift rod bushing. This Replacement Bushing is designed to restore precision to your shifting mechanism. By supporting the front section of the long shift rod, this bushing eliminates excess play and vibration, providing a much firmer and more predictable gear engagement.
Key Features:
-
Precision Fit: Manufactured to original dimensions to ensure a smooth, snug fit around the shift rod.
-
Durable Polymer: Constructed from high-density material designed to resist heat, grease, and the constant friction of shifting.
-
Direct Replacement: A straightforward swap for the factory unit located at the front of the shift linkage system.
-
Restored Feel: Eliminates the "hunting for gears" sensation common in older Vanagons with degraded original bushings.

Vehicle Application & Fitment
This bushing is specifically designed for the Volkswagen Type 2 (T3) Vanagon platform:
| Vehicle | Model Years |
| VW Vanagon (Air-Cooled & Water-Cooled) | 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991 |
| VW Vanagon Syncro (4WD) | 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991 |
Tech Tip: Shifter rebuilds are most effective when you replace all the bushings in the system at once. While you have the shift rod disconnected to install this front bushing, we highly recommend inspecting the rear linkage bushings and the shifter base "onion" for wear. Always apply a high-quality synthetic grease to the inner diameter of the bushing during installation to ensure smooth, quiet operation.
