VW Rear Left Drum Brake Push Rod – 171-609-803
Ensure your classic VW stops straight and true with this Rear Left Drum Brake Push Rod. Often referred to as a "spreader bar," this component is the backbone of your rear drum assembly. It maintains the critical gap between your brake shoes, ensuring that your brake pedal stays firm and your stopping power is consistent.
This bar is designed specifically for early production models without self-adjusting brakes. It features a Right-Hand (RH) thread for the adjustment side and is engineered for the Left (Driver) side of the vehicle.

Installation & Tech Tips
-
The "Side-Specific" Rule: Brake push rods are side-specific due to their thread direction. Ensure you are installing this Right-Hand thread bar on the Left side of the vehicle to allow for proper manual adjustment.
-
Service Recommendation: While the drum is disassembled, check the teeth on the adjustment star-wheel. If they are rounded or rusted, replacing them alongside this push rod will make future brake adjustments much easier.
-
Lubrication: Use a small amount of high-temperature brake grease on the threaded portion to prevent the adjuster from seizing over time.
