VW Fresh Air Box Drain Hose (20mm ID) – 111-819-543
The 111-819-543 is a specialized rubber drainage hose designed to channel rainwater away from the fresh air intake box and out of the vehicle chassis. On 1968 and later Beetles, the air intake grille (located just behind the hood) allows air into the cabin, but it also collects water during rain or car washes. This 20mm internal diameter (ID) hose connects to the bottom of the air box, ensuring that moisture is safely diverted rather than overflowing into your interior carpets or trunk.
Over time, the original rubber hoses become brittle, crack, or get clogged with pine needles and road debris. A failed drain hose is one of the leading causes of "mysterious" wet floorboards and rusted heater channels. This high-quality reproduction hose features the correct 20mm diameter to ensure a snug, leak-proof fit on the factory plastic or metal drain nipples.
Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This hose is designed for the updated fresh air systems found in late-model Type 1 chassis:

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Clear the Debris: Before installing the new hose, reach into the fresh air box and clear out any muck or leaves. If the box is full of debris, the new hose will clog immediately.
-
Soap for Easy Slide: If the hose is difficult to push onto the drain nipple, apply a drop of dish soap to the inside of the hose to help it slide on.
-
Route Carefully: Ensure the hose is routed straight down through the body opening. If the hose is kinked or "u-shaped," water will sit in the hose and eventually back up into the car.
-
Test the Flow: After installation, pour a small amount of water into the exterior fresh air cowl and verify that it drains quickly onto the ground beneath the car.
