VW Convertible Front Door Vent to Windshield Post Seals – 151-353C-L/R
Restore the weather-tight seal of your air-cooled classic with this pair of Front Door Vent to Windshield Post Seals. Often referred to as "pillar seals," these vertical rubber components are critical for the Beetle Convertible top system. They mount directly to the upright portion of the windshield frame and provide a soft, compressed surface for the front vent window frame to seal against when the door is closed.
Over decades of use, original rubber seals shrink, harden, and crack, leading to annoying wind whistles at highway speeds and water leaks that can damage your interior. These replacement seals are manufactured from high-quality, weather-resistant rubber designed to maintain their shape and flexibility even after years of exposure to the sun and rain. They are a direct replacement for factory part number 151-871-353-C.
Detailed Vehicle Compatibility These seals are designed specifically for Type 1 Convertible models across these years:
VW Beetle (Standard):
-
1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970
VW Super Beetle:
-
1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979
Product Highlights & Features Weather-Tight Protection: Engineered to eliminate drafts and prevent water from entering the cabin at the leading edge of the door glass.
Direct Fitment: Molded with the correct profile to slide into the metal retaining channels found on 1965-later convertible windshield pillars.
Complete Set: Sold as a pair, including both the left (driver) and right (passenger) side seals to complete your restoration.
UV-Resistant Compound: Built from a specialized rubber blend that resists ozone and UV damage, ensuring the seals don't become brittle or chalky.
Technical Specifications Part Number: 151-353C-L/R (Ref: 151-871-353-C)
Application: Front Pillar / Windshield Post
Materials: Extruded EPDM Rubber
Length: Approximately 16" (406mm)
Installation & Maintenance Tips Clean the Channels: Before installing the new rubber, thoroughly clean the aluminum or steel retaining strips on your windshield post. Remove all old glue and dirt using a small brush and a mild solvent.
Use a Lubricant: To make sliding the new rubber into the metal tracks easier, use a small amount of soapy water or a dedicated rubber lubricant. Avoid using petroleum-based products like WD-40, as they can degrade the rubber over time.
Inspect Retaining Strips: While the seals are removed, inspect your metal pillar inserts. If they are bent or corroded, they may need to be replaced (Part # 151-351A for 65-72 or 151-351B for 73-79) to hold the new rubber securely.
Window Adjustment: After installation, you may need to slightly adjust the "pitch" of your vent window frame. The new, thicker rubber may require a tighter seal to fully compress and eliminate wind noise.
