VW Rear Apron (H-Pattern Style) – 111-813-301F

The 111-813-301F is a high-quality sheet metal replacement for the rear "valance" or apron of the air-cooled Volkswagen Beetle. This panel is the lower structural section located directly behind the engine, providing the mounting point for the engine to body seal and the receiver for the decklid latch. Specifically designed for 65-66 body style, this apron can be used on earlier models with the correct lock latch they just will not look period correct.

The fitment of this apron depends on your specific decklid handle style. For 1964.5 to 1966 models equipped with the factory push-button handle, this apron is a direct-fit replacement. For earlier 1958 to 1964.5 models using the T-handle decklid, you will need to purchase the early-style latch receiver (Part # 111-827-513K) and weld it onto this panel to ensure proper latching.

Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This panel is designed for standard Beetles within the following year ranges:

VW Beetle (Standard):

  • 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966

Technical Specifications

  • Material: Stamped Steel

  • Finish: Protective Transport Primer

  • Installation: Weld-On

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Latch Alignment: If you are welding on the early-style latch receiver, bolt your decklid on first and test the closure to mark the exact position. Even a 2mm misalignment will cause the lid to rattle or fail to lock.

  • Exhaust Clearance: Before final welding, check the clearance for your specific exhaust system. High-performance "merged" headers may require slight trimming of the lower lip for heat expansion.

  • Check Fitment: Temporarily install your fenders on either side of the apron to ensure the panels align. It is much easier to adjust the sheet metal before it is fully welded to the quarter panels.

  • Corrosion Protection: The back of the apron is exposed to intense engine heat and road salt. Use a high-temperature engine bay paint or powder coat after welding to prevent the new metal from rusting.
