EMPI Urethane IRS Trailing Arm Pivot Bushings – 16-5122-0
Eliminate suspension "slop" and improve your rear-end alignment with the EMPI Urethane IRS Trailing Arm Pivot Bushing Set. These high-performance red urethane bushings are designed to replace the soft factory rubber and inner sleeve at the front of your Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) trailing arms.
Unlike standard rubber that compresses and distorts over time, polyurethane remains rigid, preventing unwanted vertical and horizontal movement at the pivot point. This ensures that your rear wheels stay properly aligned under load, providing more predictable handling and reduced tire wear for your classic Volkswagen.

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Prep the Arms: Removing the old rubber bushings can be difficult. Once removed, ensure the inner surface of the trailing arm "cup" is clean and free of rust or old rubber debris before sliding the new urethane in.
-
Lubrication Required: Use a specialized silicone-based grease on the contact surfaces between the urethane and the steel sleeve. This ensures smooth movement and prevents the squeaking often associated with polyurethane bushings.
-
Check Your Bolts: This is the ideal time to inspect your IRS Pivot Bolts (113-501-535A). If they are rusted or the threads are damaged, they should be replaced during the bushing installation for maximum safety.
**Note: 1968 Years will fit for Semi-Auto or Fully Auto Transmissions**
