Parking Brake Pull Handle – 211-711-421
The 211-711-421 is a vital interior component for any 1968–1979 Bus restoration. A broken or loose handle isn't just an eyesore; it can be a safety hazard if you cannot get a firm grip to engage or disengage the brakes quickly. This replacement handle restores the structural integrity of the parking brake interface, giving you a solid, dependable feel every time you park your vehicle.
This handle is the standard fitment for all Bay Window models throughout their entire production run.
Detailed Vehicle Compatibility
VW Bus (Type 2 / Bay Window):
- 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979
Product Highlights & Features
-
High-Impact Composite: Engineered to resist the brittle failure common in original 50-year-old plastic components, handling high-tension pulls without cracking.
-
UV Resistant Finish: Treated to withstand prolonged sun exposure through the large Bus windshield, preventing the "chalking" and fading that affects aged interior plastics.
-
Internal Reinforcement: Built with a reinforced core at the pin-insertion point to prevent the mounting hole from elongating or "egging out" over time.

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Pair with a New Pin: Since you are replacing the handle, it is highly recommended to install a new N133491 Retaining Pin at the same time. Using a worn pin in a new handle can cause the mounting hole to wear prematurely.
-
Check the Ratchet Teeth: If the handle pulls out but won't stay "clicked" in place, the issue may be the ratcheting mechanism inside the brake tube rather than the handle itself. Inspect the pawl and teeth for wear while you have the handle off.
-
Cleaning: To maintain the factory look, clean the handle with a mild soap and water solution. Avoid silicone-based "protectants" which can make the handle slippery and difficult to grip in an emergency.
