VW Torsion Arm & Beam Grub Screw – 111-411-151
The 111-411-151 is a high-tensile set screw (grub screw) that serves as a primary locking mechanism for the front suspension on nearly all air-cooled Volkswagens. While essential for early King Pin models, this hardware is equally critical for later Ball Joint and Super Beetle front ends. Its job is to lock the internal torsion leaf stacks into the center of the axle beam and to pinch the torsion arms onto the ends of those leaf stacks, ensuring the suspension height and tension remain constant.
Each screw features a precision-tapered point designed to seat into the factory-machined "dimples" in the torsion leaf stacks. This creates a mechanical interference fit that prevents the arms from sliding off or the leaves from shifting laterally. Because these are located on the underside of the axle beam, they are frequently exposed to road debris and moisture. Replacing these screws during any suspension service is highly recommended to ensure you are working with clean threads and a sharp locking point.

Seating the Point: When installing, ensure the screw "drops" into the leaf stack dimple. You can often feel this by wiggling the torsion arm slightly as you tighten the screw.
