Tail Pipe / Heater Box Connection Clamp Kit – 111-298-051
The 111-298-051 is a critical "small part" that ensures your exhaust system remains leak-free and quiet. Because air-cooled engines vibrate significantly, these connections often loosen or the internal metal donut gasket wears down over time. Replacing these clamps whenever you remove a tailpipe or heater box is highly recommended to prevent exhaust fumes from entering the cabin or causing "popping" noises.
The kit is sold per junction. For a standard Beetle muffler, you will typically need two kits for the tailpipes. If you are replacing heater boxes or J-tubes, you will need additional kits for those specific connections.

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Proper Orientation: Ensure the metal "donut" gasket is seated squarely between the two pipe ends before tightening the clamp. If it is cocked to one side, it will leak almost immediately.
-
Anti-Seize: It is a professional secret to apply a small amount of high-temp anti-seize to the bolt threads. This prevents the nuts from rusting onto the bolts, making future exhaust work much easier.
-
Check After Heat Cycle: After the first long drive with new clamps, wait for the engine to cool and re-check the tightness of the nuts. The metal components often expand and settle after the first heat cycle.
