VW Decklid Lock Catch (On-Body Striker) – 111-827-513

The 111-827-513 is the body-mounted lock catch (or striker plate) designed specifically for the mid-sixties Volkswagen Beetle. This component is the female receiver for the decklid latch mechanism. It is located on the rear apron and provides the secure hook point that keeps your engine lid closed and locked. Because it is positioned directly above the rear bumper and near the exhaust, it is frequently a victim of moisture-driven rust or "rounding off" from decades of the latch striking the metal.

This part is specific to the 1965 and 1966 transition years, matching the mechanical requirements of the push-button handle introduced during this era. A worn-out catch can lead to a decklid that rattles while driving or, worse, one that pops open unexpectedly. This high-quality replacement is stamped from heavy-duty steel and features a zinc-plated finish to resist corrosion and ensure a smooth latching action for years to come.

Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This catch is designed for the specific latch geometry of the following years:

VW Beetle (Standard):

  • 1965, 1966

Product Highlights & Features

  • Era-Specific Fit: Correct dimensions and hook profile for the 1965–1966 "push-button" latching system.

  • Corrosion Protection: Zinc-plated finish helps prevent the metal-on-metal friction from causing premature surface rust.

  • Structural Integrity: Manufactured to OE thickness to prevent the plate from bending under the tension of the decklid seal.

  • Easy Adjustment: Features elongated mounting holes to allow for precise "up and down" adjustment to get your decklid perfectly flush with the body.

Technical Specifications

  • Part Number: 111-827-513

  • Material: Zinc-Plated Steel

  • Placement: Rear Apron (Center)

  • Mounting: Bolt-on (Hardware not included)

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Alignment: When installing, leave the mounting bolts slightly loose. Close the decklid slowly to center the latch into the catch, then tighten the bolts. This prevents the latch from hitting the side of the catch and chipping your paint.

  • Lubrication: Apply a small amount of white lithium grease to the "hook" portion of the catch. This reduces wear on your decklid handle's latching mechanism and makes the button easier to push.

  • Check the Seal: If you have to slam your decklid to get it to catch, your Decklid Seal may be too thick or improperly seated. You should never have to force the lid onto the catch.

  • Hardware Note: This part typically reuses your factory M6 bolts. If yours are rusted, it is highly recommended to replace them with stainless steel hardware to prevent the catch from seizing to the apron.
