Idle Cut-Off Solenoid (12-Volt) – 049-129-412C
The 049-129-412C is a 12-volt electromagnetic plunger designed to control the idle circuit of your carburetor. When the ignition is turned on, the solenoid retracts a needle to allow fuel to flow through the idle circuit. When the ignition is switched off, the plunger immediately snaps forward, cutting off the fuel supply. This is a critical safety and performance component that prevents "dieseling" or "run-on," where the engine continues to sputter after the key is turned off.
Manufactured by Brosol, a long-standing OEM producer for Volkswagen, this solenoid features the correct metric threading for a leak-free seal. If your engine refuses to idle unless the choke is on, or if it dies the moment you let off the gas, a failed 049-129-412C is often the culprit. It is a simple "plug-and-play" replacement that restores factory-smooth idling and shut-down characteristics.

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Testing the Solenoid: With the ignition on, pull the wire off the solenoid and touch it back to the terminal. You should hear a distinct "click." If you don't hear a click, the solenoid is either stuck or the internal coil has failed.
-
Do Not Over-Tighten: The solenoid only needs to be snug enough to crush the small brass sealing washer. Over-tightening can distort the carburetor body or snap the solenoid threads.
-
Wiring Check: Ensure the "power-on" wire is securely attached. A loose connection here will cause the engine to stall intermittently at stoplights.
-
Failing: If the engine won't idle and the solenoid doesn't click, you can unscrew the unit and cut off the plunger tip as an effort to get your vehicle home.
