Front Upper Control Arm Bushing – 251-407-077 (Febi 07590)

The Febi 07590 bushing is a critical maintenance item for any Vanagon restoration. Over decades, the original vulcanized rubber mounts dry out and lose their ability to dampen road vibrations. Because the upper control arm (UCA) connects the wheel spindle to the vehicle body, any play in these bushings directly impacts your wheel alignment and tire wear.

This Febi version is engineered to meet factory specifications, providing a balance of ride comfort and durability. It is sold individually, but it is standard practice to replace all four upper bushings at once to ensure consistent handling across the front axle.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Press-In Installation: These bushings must be pressed into the upper control arm. It is highly recommended to use a dedicated shop press rather than a hammer to avoid deforming the thin outer metal casing.

  • Avoid Over-Welding: On 2WD stamped-steel arms, a very small spot weld is often used to secure the bushing. Be careful not to overheat the arm, as excessive heat can melt the internal plastic sleeve of the new bushing.

  • Alignment Required: Since you are removing the control arms to replace these, a professional front-end alignment is mandatory after installation to ensure your camber and caster settings are correct.
