VW 70mm Gas Cap Gasket – 111-201-557D
Eliminate fuel odors and prevent gasoline from sloshing out of your tank with this high-quality 70mm Gas Cap Gasket. This seal is specifically designed for the large-diameter 70mm non-vented and non-locking gas caps found on vintage Volkswagens. Over time, original rubber or cork seals become brittle, flat, or cracked, allowing fuel vapors to enter the trunk area or cab.
The 111-201-557D is manufactured from fuel-resistant rubber or fiber composite material designed to withstand the chemical breakdown caused by modern ethanol-blended gasoline. Replacing this simple seal is often all that is needed to pass a modern emissions sniff test or to simply make your classic ride more pleasant to drive.

Product Highlights & Features 70mm Outer Diameter: Precision sized to fit perfectly inside the flange of the early-style large gas caps.
Fuel-Resistant Material: Constructed from modern rubber compounds that won't swell or degrade when exposed to E10 or E15 fuel.
Easy "Press-In" Installation: Requires no tools; simply remove the old, hardened seal and press the new one into the cap's inner groove.
Effective Vapor Barrier: Restores the airtight seal of your fuel system, keeping the "old car" gas smell out of your interior.
Technical Specifications Part Number: 111-201-557D
Outer Diameter: 70mm
Inner Diameter: ~46mm
Cap Type: Non-Vented / Non-Locking
Material: Nitrile Rubber or Fiber Composite
Installation & Maintenance Tips Verify Cap Size: Measure your gas cap before ordering. Early Volkswagens (pre-1960) often use an 80mm cap, while 1972-and-later models use a much smaller threaded or 2-tab cap.
Clean the Cap Groove: Before installing the new gasket, use a small screwdriver or pick to ensure all remnants of the old, brittle seal are removed. A clean surface is required for a leak-free seal.
Avoid "Vented" Caps: This gasket is intended for non-vented caps. If your cap has a spring-loaded center or a breather hole, this flat gasket may interfere with the venting mechanism.
Hard Cornering Test: If you still smell gas after replacing this seal, check your fuel filler neck hose and tank-to-neck clamps, as those are also common failure points on these models.
