Emergency Hand Brake Cable (German) – 211-609-701FGR
The 211-609-701FGR is a vital safety component for any vintage Volkswagen Transporter. Over decades, original cables often become corroded inside their protective housings, leading to "stuck" brakes or a hand brake lever that pulls all the way up without engaging the rear wheels. This German-sourced replacement restores the mechanical advantage needed to lock the rear drums securely.
Because these cables are exposed to road grime and moisture underneath the chassis, upgrading to a German-made part with a durable outer coating is the best way to prevent future seizing and ensure a long service life.

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
The "Lube" Step: Before installing, it is highly recommended to drip a small amount of heavy-duty cable lubricant or white lithium grease into the housing. This prevents internal rust and makes the hand brake much easier to pull.
-
Even Adjustment: After installing new cables on both sides, use the adjusting nuts at the hand brake lever to ensure both cables are pulling evenly. If one cable is tighter than the other, the Bus may "pull" or pivot when the emergency brake is applied.
-
Check the Rear Shoes: A new cable won't fix a hand brake that doesn't work if the Rear Brake Shoes are worn out or improperly adjusted. Always adjust your brake shoes at the drums before doing the final cable tensioning at the lever.
