VW Heater Cable to Box Clamp Kit – 111-298-101A
The 111-298-101A is a specialized hardware kit essential for the operation of your Volkswagen’s fresh air heating system. This kit provides the mechanical connection between the internal heater control cables and the lever arm on the heat exchanger (heater box). Without a secure clamp, the cable will simply slide back and forth without moving the flap inside the heater box, leaving you stuck with either full heat or no heat at all.
Over years of exposure to road grime, salt, and the intense heat of the exhaust system, these small clamps often become severely rusted or snap during cable replacement. This kit is a direct OE-style replacement, featuring a barrel-style clamp and a locking screw designed to "bite" into the heater cable without crushing it. Replacing these during a heater cable refresh ensures your lever-to-box communication is crisp and reliable.
Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This kit fits the standard heater box control arms on the following models:

Product Highlights & Features Barrel & Screw Design: Uses the factory-correct barrel nut and set screw configuration for a secure, non-slip grip on the control cable.
Zinc Plated Finish: Coated to resist corrosion and "seizing," which is vital given the kit's location near the hot exhaust and road spray.
Direct OE Specification: Replaces the original hardware perfectly, fitting into the eyelet of the heater box lever arm without rattling.
Complete Kit: Sold individually (two required per car) to refresh one side of the heater control system.
Technical Specifications Part Number: 111-298-101A
Material: Zinc-Plated Steel
Contents: 1 Barrel Clamp, 1 Set Screw
Application: Heater Box Lever Arm
Installation & Maintenance Tips Synchronize Your Levers: Before tightening the set screw, ensure your interior heater levers are in the "closed" position and the heater box flap is also fully closed. This ensures the full range of motion is available.
Anti-Seize is Key: Apply a tiny drop of anti-seize to the threads of the set screw. Because this part lives near the exhaust, heat-cycling can make future adjustments impossible if the screw rusts in place.
Don't Over-Tighten: Tighten the screw until the cable is secure, but do not crank it down with excessive force, as you can flatten or weaken the steel control cable.
Check the Return Spring: While installing this kit, verify that your heater box return spring is still under tension. If the spring is broken, the cable clamp will be under constant stress to "pull" the box shut.
