Firewall Engine Tin (Non-Doghouse) – EMPI 00-8951-0
The EMPI 00-8951-0 is a specialized piece of engine sheet metal designed for Early "Non-Doghouse" style engines. Unlike the later versions, this firewall tin features a straight-back design with no provision for the doghouse oil cooler exhaust tin. It is the correct component for 1300cc and early 1600cc engines where the oil cooler remains inside the fan shroud rather than being offset to the exterior.
This tin acts as the primary barrier between the hot lower engine area and the cool upper engine bay. It provides the essential mounting ledge for the firewall rubber seal, ensuring that your cooling fan only pulls in ambient air from above. Using this specific "Non-Doghouse" version on an early engine ensures a perfect fit without the large, unnecessary gap that a later-style tin would leave behind.

Optimal Airflow Management: Seals the front of the engine against the firewall to prevent thermal recycling of hot exhaust air.
-
Heavy-Duty Construction: Stamped from quality steel to ensure it maintains its shape against the pressure of the main engine bay seal.

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Identify Your Cooler: Before installing, verify that your fan shroud does not have the "doghouse" ducting on the back. If your oil cooler is mounted inside the shroud, this is the correct part.
-
Seal Alignment: When pushing the engine into the car, ensure the firewall seal lips over this tin correctly. A folded or tucked seal will allow heat to enter the engine bay and lead to overheating.
-
Screw Holes: If you are converting from a different style of tin, you may need to check that your side tins align with the mounting holes on this front piece. Hand-start all screws before tightening any of them.
-
Rust Prevention: Since this tin sits directly over the transmission and is exposed to road spray from below, ensure you apply a high-quality topcoat over the shipping finish to prevent surface rust.
Fits between engine and transmission.
