VW Engine Firewall Seal (German Quality) – 111-741G

The 111-741G is a premium, German-manufactured rubber seal designed to isolate the engine compartment from the exhaust and hot air from under the engine. This seal is located at the front of the engine bay (the "firewall" area closest to the passenger cabin). Its primary function is to create an airtight and heat-resistant barrier, preventing hot exhaust air, fumes, and road grime from being sucked into the cooling fan.

In air-cooled Volkswagens, maintaining a proper seal around the engine tin is critical for engine longevity. If the firewall seal is missing or cracked, the cooling fan may pull in pre-heated air from the exhaust area rather than fresh air from the vents, leading to overheating. This German-grade rubber is specifically formulated to withstand high engine bay temperatures and constant vibration without shrinking or becoming brittle like standard foam or low-quality rubber alternatives.

Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This universal-style firewall seal fits a wide range of air-cooled models:

Product Highlights & Features

  • German EPDM Rubber: High-density material that offers superior resistance to oil, fuel, and extreme engine heat.

  • Acoustic Insulation: Helps dampen engine noise, providing a quieter ride inside the passenger compartment.

  • Perfect Profile: Manufactured with the correct "C-channel" or flap profile to slide into the factory metal retainer tracks easily.

  • Optimal Density: Firm enough to provide a seal but flexible enough to contour around the engine tin and bodywork.

Technical Specifications

  • Part Number: 111-741G

  • Material: Heavy-Duty German Rubber

  • Placement: Front of Engine Bay / Firewall

  • Fitment Type: Slide-in Channel Mount

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Clean the Channels: Use a flathead screwdriver or a wire brush to clear out any old, dry-rotted rubber and rust from the metal retainer tracks before sliding in the new seal.

  • Use a Lubricant: A light spray of soapy water or a silicone-based lubricant inside the channel will make sliding the long seal into place much easier.

  • Check for Gaps: Once installed, ensure the engine tin sits flush against the seal. Any gaps will allow hot air to recirculate, which can increase cylinder head temperatures.

  • Trim to Fit: While designed for a range of years, you may need to trim the ends slightly for a perfect corner-to-corner fit on earlier models.
