Flywheel Gland Nut Lock Washer – 111-105-297
The 111-105-297 is a critical, high-tension washer located between the flywheel gland nut and the flywheel. In the Volkswagen air-cooled engine design, the flywheel is held to the crankshaft by a single large 36mm nut. This washer acts as the primary friction lock, preventing that nut from backing off under the extreme vibrations and rotational forces of the engine.
Reusing an old, already-crushed lock washer is a common cause of flywheel failure. If the gland nut loses tension, the flywheel can shear the drive pins, destroying both the crankshaft and the flywheel. For any clutch replacement or engine teardown, a new 111-105-297 is a mandatory insurance policy for your engine's safety.

Product Highlights & Features
-
Hardened Construction: Engineered to maintain its spring-lock tension even under the high temperatures found at the back of the engine.
-
Friction Surface: Provides a stable, uniform surface for the gland nut to bite into during high-torque tightening.
-
Exact Fitment: Designed specifically for the crankshaft/flywheel interface of Type 1 based air-cooled engines.
Technical Specifications
-
Part Number: 111-105-297
-
Outer Diameter: Matches Standard 36mm Gland Nut
-

Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Measurement: Before installation, ensure the washer is perfectly flat. If it shows any signs of previous use or "doming," discard it and use a new one.
-
Torque Sequence: Torque the gland nut to a minimum of 217 ft-lbs. Many professional builders prefer 250 ft-lbs for added security on performance engines.
-
Lubrication: A tiny amount of oil on the nut threads is acceptable, but the face of the washer should be clean and dry to ensure maximum friction.
