Exhaust Valve (30.0mm) – 113-109-612

The 113-109-612 is a vital part for maintaining the longevity of early air-cooled engines. In 40hp and 1300cc applications, the exhaust valve is under significant stress due to the cooling limitations of the early cylinder head designs. Replacing a pitted or burnt valve with this 30mm unit restores factory compression levels and prevents "burnt valve" syndrome, which can lead to catastrophic engine failure if the valve head breaks off into the cylinder.

This valve is designed for use with stock 8mm valve guides and standard single valve springs. It is a direct replacement for original equipment, maintaining the authentic performance characteristics of your vintage Volkswagen.

Detailed Vehicle Compatibility

VW Beetle (Standard):

  • 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965

VW Bus (Type 2 - 1200cc/40hp Only):

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Check the 40hp Guide: When working on 1961–1965 heads, pay close attention to the valve guides. These earlier heads often show more wear due to age; if the stem has side-to-side play, the guide must be replaced to prevent the new valve from overheating.

  • Proper Lapping: Use a vacuum-style valve lapping tool and fine compound to create a matte-finish ring on the valve face. This ensures the valve can transfer heat effectively from the head to the cylinder head casting.

  • Valve Adjustments: After installation, ensure your valve lash is set to the factory .006" (0.15mm) when the engine is stone cold. Tight valves are the #1 cause of burnt exhaust valves in 40hp engines.
