Timing Belt – 037-109-119C

The 037-109-119C is a high-strength, notched timing belt designed specifically for Volkswagen’s 2.0L 8-valve (non-turbo) engines, commonly referred to as the "2.0 Slow" or "ABA/AEG" family. This belt is the synchronized link between the crankshaft and the camshaft, ensuring the engine's valves open and close at the precise moment relative to piston position.

Because the 2.0L engine is an interference design, a snapped or slipped timing belt will result in the pistons striking the valves, causing catastrophic and expensive internal engine damage. The 037-109-119C is constructed with advanced rubber compounds and glass-fiber tensile members to resist stretching and tooth-shear over its service life. Replacing this belt at the recommended factory interval (typically every 60,000 to 80,000 miles) is the single most important maintenance task for these vehicles.

Product Highlights & Features

  • Precision Tooth Profile: Features an exact tooth pitch designed to match the factory sprockets perfectly, preventing "tooth jump" even under high-load conditions.

  • Heat-Resistant Compound: Formulated with high-grade synthetic rubber to prevent cracking and hardening caused by the intense heat of the engine compartment.

  • Minimal Stretch: Reinforced with high-tensile glass-fiber cords that maintain a constant belt length, keeping engine timing accurate throughout the belt's life.

  • Direct OE Spec: Manufactured to meet or exceed the original 037-109-119C specifications for fitment and durability.

Technical Specifications

  • Part Number: 037-109-119C

  • Tooth Count: 138 Teeth

  • Width: 23mm

  • Material: HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber)

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Always Replace the Tensioner: When installing a new belt, it is mandatory to also replace the Timing Belt Tensioner Roller. An old roller can seize, causing the new belt to melt and snap almost instantly.

  • The Water Pump Rule: Since the timing belt must be removed to access the water pump on these engines, it is highly recommended to replace the water pump at the same time to avoid duplicate labor costs later.

  • Verify TDC: Always rotate the engine by hand (using the crank bolt) at least two full revolutions after installation to ensure all timing marks still align at Top Dead Center (TDC) before starting the car.

  • Seal Inspection: While the timing covers are off, inspect the camshaft and crankshaft front seals for oil leaks. Oil contamination will significantly shorten the lifespan of the new belt.
