Engine Coolant Hose – 068-121-053E

The 068-121-053E is a heavy-duty radiator hose molded to the exact factory specifications for 1.5L and 1.6L diesel powerplants. Constructed from high-quality EPDM rubber, it features internal fiber reinforcement to prevent hose expansion or bursting under load. This hose is a critical replacement item for older vehicles where the original rubber has become soft, oil-soaked, or brittle, which can lead to sudden coolant loss and engine overheating.

Given its application in classic diesel Volkswagens, this hose is engineered to provide a leak-proof seal at the connection points when used with standard worm-gear or constant-tension spring clamps.

Product Highlights & Features

  • Heat-Resistant Rubber: Made from premium EPDM compounds that resist the degrading effects of heat, ozone, and chemical coolant additives.

  • OEM Fit and Finish: Molded to the specific curvature required for early diesel engine bays, ensuring no kinks or restricted flow.

  • Fiber Reinforcement: Internal mesh lining provides structural integrity against cooling system pressure spikes.

Technical Specifications

  • Part Number: 068-121-053E

  • Material: Reinforced EPDM Rubber

  • Application: Cooling System / Radiator

  • Engine Fitment: 1.5L and 1.6L Diesel / Turbo Diesel

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Clamp Replacement: When installing a new hose, it is highly recommended to use new stainless steel clamps. Over-tightening old clamps can cut into the new rubber.

  • Clean Connections: Use a wire brush to clean any corrosion or "crust" off the plastic or metal coolant flanges before sliding the new hose on. This ensures a liquid-tight seal.

  • Coolant Flush: Since the system must be drained to replace this hose, it is an ideal time to flush the cooling system and refill with a fresh mixture of distilled water and the appropriate VAG-spec coolant.
