VW Front Torsion Arm Seal – 111-401-129
The 111-401-129 is an essential rubber dust and grease seal designed for the King and Link Pin front axle beams of early air-cooled Volkswagens. These seals sit at the outermost ends of the axle beam tubes, creating a protective barrier where the torsion arms enter the beam. Their primary function is twofold: they keep the critical chassis grease packed inside the beam tubes and prevent road grime, water, and abrasive dust from entering and wearing down your torsion arm bushings.
On many vintage Volkswagens, these seals are either original and severely dry-rotted or missing entirely. When the torsion arm seal fails, grease escapes and attracts dirt, creating a grinding paste that quickly destroys expensive internal bushings and bearings. Replacing these seals is a low-cost way to extend the life of your front suspension and ensure that the "King and Link Pin" front end continues to operate smoothly and quietly.
Detailed Vehicle Compatibility This seal is correct for all "Link Pin" style front axle beams:

Product Highlights & Features Durable Rubber Compound: Molded from high-quality, oil-resistant rubber designed to withstand constant exposure to chassis grease and road spray.
Perfect OE Fit: Designed to the exact factory 111-401-129 specifications for a snug fit on the axle beam tube ends.
Critical Protection: Acts as a wiper seal for the torsion arms, ensuring that the internal needle bearings and bushings remain in a clean, lubricated environment.
Sold Individually: Allows for targeted repairs, though four seals are required to fully refresh one front axle beam (Upper and Lower, Left and Right).
Technical Specifications Part Number: 111-401-129
Material: Flexible Nitrile Rubber (NBR)
Application: Link Pin Axle Beam Ends
Quantity Required: 4 per vehicle
Installation & Maintenance Tips Clean Before Installing: Use a rag and solvent to thoroughly clean the end of the axle beam tube and the torsion arm surface. Any grit left behind can tear the new seal during the first few miles of driving.
Check for Burrs: Inspect the metal lip of the axle beam tube for sharp edges or rust flakes that could puncture the rubber. Lightly sand any rough spots before sliding the seal into place.
Grease the Lip: Apply a light coating of chassis grease to the inner lip of the seal before sliding the torsion arm back in. This prevents the rubber from "grabbing" and tearing during assembly.
The Full Set: Since these seals are almost always in the same condition, it is highly recommended to replace all four at once whenever you have the torsion arms removed for link pin service or beam maintenance.
