Front Wheel Grease Seal (King Pin) – 111-405-641A

The 111-405-641A is a vital part of your Volkswagen's front suspension maintenance. Over time, original grease seals can become brittle, distorted, or corroded, allowing lubrication to escape and abrasive grit to enter the wheel bearing assembly. Replacing these seals whenever you service or repack your bearings is "cheap insurance" against costly spindle or bearing damage.

This factory-style reproduction is designed for the 40mm x 62mm hub openings found on early VW front ends. It installs easily into the brake drum after the inner bearing is seated, providing a flush and reliable seal. Because it fits both the left and right sides of the vehicle, it is recommended to replace them in pairs for consistent protection.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Proper Seating: Always press the new seal into the drum evenly using a seal driver or a large socket to avoid distorting the metal frame.

  • Lubrication: Apply a light film of wheel bearing grease to the rubber sealing lip before installation to prevent "dry start" wear on the spindle.

  • Check the Spindle: Inspect the spindle surface where the seal rides; if there is a deep groove or pitting, the new seal may not be able to prevent leaks effectively.
