The 068-103-085A is a premium radial shaft seal featuring a built-in dust lip to protect the sealing surface from external contaminants. With an inner diameter of 32mm and an outer diameter of 47mm, it provides an exact interference fit for many water-cooled VAG group engines. This seal is frequently replaced during timing belt services to prevent oil seepage that can saturate and weaken the timing belt.

Designed with an alternating twist swirl type, this seal actively pumps oil back toward the engine interior as the shaft rotates. Its construction from Fluoride Rubber (FPM) and Polyacrylate Rubber (ACM) ensures it remains flexible and effective even after years of exposure to extreme engine bay temperatures.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

• Shaft Inspection: Before installing the new seal, inspect the camshaft or intermediate shaft surface for grooves or "scoring." If a deep groove is present, the seal may still leak; a repair sleeve may be required.

• Lubrication: Lightly coat the inner sealing lip with fresh engine oil before sliding it onto the shaft to prevent a "dry start" which can burn the seal lip.

• Square Installation: Use a seal driver tool to ensure the seal is pressed into the housing perfectly square. An angled installation is one of the most common causes of immediate seal failure.
