210mm Type 4 Clutch Kit – 022-198-141

The 022-198-141 is a vital maintenance kit for early "Bay Window" Bus owners. During the 1972–1974 era, VW utilized a 210mm clutch before standardizing larger sizes. If your Bus is experiencing slipping under load or difficulty engaging gears, replacing the entire assembly—rather than just the disc—is recommended to ensure the pressure plate fingers and release bearing are fresh and properly matched.

This kit is designed to meet or exceed original equipment standards, providing reliable power transfer for your classic hauler. Whether you are performing a stock restoration or just keeping your daily driver on the road, this 210mm set provides the correct clamping force required for the 1.7L and 1.8L engines.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Verify Your Size: Because many vintage engines have been swapped or flywheels upgraded, always measure your old clutch disc before installing the new one. A 210mm kit will not fit a 215mm or 228mm setup.

  • Alignment Tool: Use a clutch alignment tool during installation to ensure the disc is perfectly centered. This allows the transmission to slide back into place without damaging the new disc or the input shaft splines.

  • Clean the Flywheel: Before installing the new pressure plate, use brake cleaner to remove any shipping oil or grease from the friction surfaces of both the new plate and your existing flywheel.
