The 111-707 (often referenced as 111-971-905) is a heavy-duty rubber grommet designed to protect the positive battery cable as it passes through the metal of the rear floor pan or firewall. In an air-cooled Volkswagen, the main power cable must travel through a sharp-edged hole in the chassis to reach the starter motor. Without this grommet, engine vibration and road movement will eventually cause the metal to saw through the cable's insulation.
