Engine Compartment "U" Seal – 111-813-705A

The 111-813-705A is the "Early Style" seal designed for vehicles with the smaller engine bay opening. It works in tandem with the firewall seal to completely isolate the top of the engine from the ground and exhaust system. This seal is typically made from high-quality EPDM rubber, which is designed to withstand the high temperatures of the engine bay without becoming brittle.

Failure to replace a dry-rotted or missing seal is one of the most common causes of "mystery" overheating on classic Volkswagens. When the engine is out for service, replacing this seal is considered "cheap insurance" to protect the longevity of your cylinder heads and valves.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Engine Removal Required: While technically possible to "stuff" this into the channel with the engine in, it is nearly impossible to get it seated correctly. It is best installed while the engine is out.

  • Lubrication: Use a small amount of soapy water or silicone spray in the metal channel to help the rubber seal slide into place more easily.

  • Corner Trimming: This seal is often supplied slightly long. You should install it starting from the center and trim the ends where they meet the firewall seal for a tight, seamless fit.
